06-25-25 KUAC MORNING NEWS

KUAC Senior Reporter/Producer Tim Ellis

Wednesday June 25, 2025 KUAC News stories:

1. The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District board passed a budget for the coming year Tuesday that relies on state lawmakers to override Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s line-item veto.

2.  Cold, wet weather has slowed the wildfires that've been raging in the Interior since late last week. But fires threatening areas around Healy, Tok, and Fairbanks are nowhere near extinguished.

3. A new law that goes into effect next week boosts Alaska's minimum wage and requires paid sick leave. But many business leaders don’t know the law's rules.

4. A Talkeetna man who was driving his ATV on a stretch of railroad track Monday was killed when he was struck by a northbound freight train near Montana Creek.

Tim Ellis has been working as a KUAC reporter/producer since 2010. He has more than 30 years experience in broadcast, print and online journalism.
